International Games Week @WVU Libraries

Downtown Campus Library, 1549 University Ave, Morgantown
Events kick off Monday Oct. 30, with a presentation by Dr. Jaime Banks, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, and PhD student Joe Wasserman, “Real Representations and Liminal Lessons: Considerations for Games in Learning” in room 104 of Downtown Campus Library, 12-1pm.

Wednesday, a panel of WVU instructors will present their use of games and gamification in their teaching and research including Dr. Jaime Banks (Communication Studies), Mark Benincosa (School of Music), Dr. Bob Britten (Reed College of Media), Dr. Brian Ballentine (Professional Writing and Editing), facilitated by Jing Qiu (University Libraries). Instructors are invited to bring lesson plans to gamify in a workshop after the panel. Panel at 11am, followed by lunch provided by Lotsa Motsa and workshop at 12pm, in room 104. Thursday, Cartridges Galore Video Games will host an on-site open gaming station for users to play with for free in the Downtown Campus Library.

Friday, the WVU Student Game Developers Club will have an open showcase of games they designed in room 2036. Come play their games and learn about the club from 11am to 6pm.

Saturday is Family Day, a casual community game extravaganza including lessons for beginners for all kinds of games, giveaways, competitive tournaments, open play, live WVU Jeopardy and an appearance by real Jeopardy star and Morgantown resident Leigh Limerick. College of Creative Arts Professor Jeffrey Moser’s game design class will display Breakout Storytelling. Four Horsemen Comics and Games and Starport Arcade is giving out free prizes. Visitors can learn and play Magic the Gathering, Pokémon, board games, and more!
International Games Week has been celebrated in 53 countries and territories on all 7 continents. Hundreds of libraries across the country will join WVU in celebrating the popularity and educational, recreational, and social value of games. The activities present a rare opportunity for gaming in the library and networking with playful people.

Grant Town EMS is hosting a Haunted House and Haunted Maze on October 26, 27, 28, 30, 31 from 7pm-10pm. The cost is $7.00 adults and $5.00 for children under 12 years of age. There will also be food and drinks for sale at the Fire Department.
