A kayaker is safe after spending the night lost in Tucker County.

State Police say Steve Graybill got separated from his kayaking partner around 5:30 p.m. Sunday while they were making their way through the Otter Creek Wilderness Area.

Search crews began looking for him at daylight and spotted him just two and a half hours later.

Authorities say the headwaters of Otter Creek were abnormally high due to recent rains and snow that's melted over the past 24-hours. They say the warm weather overnight most likely help Graybill survive in the remote area of the county.

He's recovering at Davis Memorial Hospital.
