Federal minimum wage is on the rise, but how will it effect folks in our area?

President George Bush signed an agreement in May for states still operating at a $5.15 rate and starting tomorrow we will see a rise of $.70 an hour.

The raise will be in 3 steps, tomorrow folks will get $5.85 an, hour in July 2008 it will jump another $.70 to $6.55, and then in 2009 to $7.25 an hour.

Harrison County Commission President Ron Watson says, although a positive change, the wage will still not cover commodities families need. And he says people will still be working 2 or 3 minimum wage jobs to retire comfortably, but a little is better than nothing.
