Harrison County Commissioners gave $2,000 towards the memorial on Thursday.
Construction on a new war memorial in Nutter Fort will start soon thanks to help from the Harrison County Commission.
Commissioners gave Mayor Danny Webster $2,000 to go towards the $5,000 project.
It will be built on the island in front of the FOP restaurant in Nutter Fort.
Mayor Webster says it's time the area has a memorial to honor veterans, and hopes to have it completed before Veteran's Day next month.
