One man is in the hospital after an early morning fire at an apartment complex in Weston.
The initial call came in around 6:40 a.m. on Monday and crews were on scene in less than three minutes.
The fire broke out at an apartment complex at 248 W. Second Street. The apartments are located above two businesses, Wilson's Carpet and a beauty salon.
A man was trying to save his animals when he ran back in the burning building. Fire crews located him at the top of the steps. He was transported to Stonewall Jackson hospital, where he was admitted into the ICU for smoke inhalation.
Weston Fire Chief Mike Young says they found an area of "electrical origin" where the fire may have started, but right now, the cause has been ruled as "undetermined." The state fire marshal will be on scene Wednesday to investigate.
Young says the apartment where the fire started is completely destroyed, but they did manage to save the other five apartments. The two businesses suffered water and smoke damage.
