Officials in Marion County hope to encourage more kids to walk to school. The Board of Education took the first step towards this process Monday night by approving a grant submission that will make walking routes safer.
One board member worries that more kids walking and riding their bikes to school will mean more accidents.
But officials say the grant money will go towards sidewalks, road markings, and bicycle safety courses, all while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Officials say they could get up to $100,000 dollars in grant money. The grant application is due November 15.
