Mother Pleads Guilty to Child Neglect Causing Death

The mother of a 5-month-old baby girl who died from child abuse pleads guilty in Harrison County court for her role in the crime.

Amber Messenger, 23, was indicted in January on three counts, including murder of a child by parent or guardian, child neglect causing death, and presentation of false information regarding a child's injuries.

On Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to the child neglect causing death charge. Judge Thomas Bedell accepted her plea.

She told the court she saw William Echard "violently" shake their baby, Emily, and throw her on a wooden deck.

Messenger admitted she knew the baby was hurt, but didn't get help.

She faces three to 15 years in prison, and $1,000 to $5,000 in fines. Messenger will be sentenced in September.
