Literacy Volunteers Hits the Links to Raise Some Cash for Education

Golfers gathered at the Pines Country Club in Morgantown on Friday for a charitable cause.

Literacy Volunteers, which is an agency of the United Way, held their fourth annual golf tournament to help raise more then $5,000 to continue teaching adults and helping them become literate.

Friday's event had 15 teams signed up to play, with all the money raised going back to Literacy Volunteers.

"We buy all of our student supplies that we supply to all of our adult learners and tutors for free.  That's what's important about getting us money, is that we need to be able to put it back out into the community and get people their educations," says Literacy Volunteers director Trella Greaser.

As a reward for a hole-in-one at Friday's tournament, golfers had a chance to drive away in a new car, but, only if they sunk a shot off the tee.
