St. Marys Grade School Holds Yard Sale to Keep School Open

Right before school was to be let out for summer, students and parents were notified that St. Mary's Grade School in Clarksburg would be closing for good.

"My stomache just sank it was very sad," says Alex Colodziej, a kindergarten teacher at St. Marys.

"I couldn't think so straight because I was crying, yea I was crying so hard that I couldn't even think," says Alex Mazza.

The school has been open for almost 100 years, and many families have grown up with St. Mary's in their lives.

"My oldest ones been there since he was in preschool, my husband graduated from notre dame and I was just at a total loss," says Melissa Mazza.

Local parents decided they weren't going to let the school that had been a part of their lives for generations, to come to an end.

"Alot of the parents came to me and said what can we do to help, so the yard sale today is a result of what parents can do to help, "says Mazza.

The parents aren't the only ones helping out, Thursday the Harrison County Commission matched the City of Clarksburgs, donation of $3,000 to the school.

"Ya know it's the pillar of clarksburg at this pont and the community is well behind the school," says Ian McAra.

"We're just a great school and I think we develope good kids who learn a lot so i'm glad to see that people came out," says Rachel Rogers.

The school is about $20,000 away from completing their immediate goal of $455,000

If you would like to help the school get to both their immediate goal, and long term goal of more than $700,000, you can send a check to the school.
