Hospitals Become Tobacco Free

Smoking is the number one cause of preventable death and three major institutions in Morgantown join forces to put their "butts out" on campus.

WVU Hospitals, Mon General and Health South became tobacco-free today.

They chose today because of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout.

The Great American Smokeout encourages smokers to light up fewer times or try quitting for the day.

WVU even took out the smoking area to keep smokers from lighting up near the facility.

Between the WVU Hospital and the Health Sciences Building is a green line that marks a 50-foot smoke  free zone.

Although this change may be difficult for smokers, the hospitals do provide tobacco cessation resources and nicotine replacement products.
