Snow Causes Boil Water Advisory in Shinnston

The weekend's snow storm caused the power to go out Saturday at the Shinnston Water Plant. Since the power has been off, the plant has not been able to produce water. It's reserve water supply has become dangerously low, and officials said the water could be contaminated.
Allegheny Power said they are working to fix the power outage, and they said they hope to get things up and running within 24 hours, but until then officials said to boil all drinking water. "They should boil their drinking water for one full minute, then let it cool for one full minute before they injest the water," said Debra Herndon, Shinnston City Manager. "It's very unlikely that there's any problem at all, but we'd rather be safe than sorry."
Boil water advisories typically last only 24 hours, but Herndon said you should check to make sure it has been officially lifted. You can find out by calling the Shinnston City Building at 304-592-2126.
