Governor Manchin Tours Aftermath of Storm in Marion County

The weekend's snowfall caused serious damage all over the state. Monday, Governor Joe Manchin took a special trip to is hometown in Farmington, Marion County to tour the aftermath of the storm and offer help to people in need.

"I've lived here all of my life. I've never seen these types of conditions. When I've seen the trees making canopies and people having to saw their way home, literally chain saw their way home," says Governor Joe Manchin.

Governor Manchin was accompanied by Marion County Commissioners, the National Guard, Division of Homeland Security, and Emergency Management.

When the storm hit, the National Guard deployed 125 troops throughout 16 counties to transport water, food, and medicine to people who were stuck with no help.

"We have thirty vehicles that have been dispatched and currently we've completed 29 missions of medical aid and food and various other services such as that," says Sgt. First Class John Oliverio.

Even members from the American Red Cross discussed plans for shelters incase the storm hit again.

"I'm very happy to say that we have volunteers that try to get out, and people that are working in these shelter operations. We're very thankful that people have responded the way they have," says Rob Johnson, Development Director, American Red Cross.

State officials and emergency response crews have already started preparation for another potential, heavy snow fall.
