Matt Heckel joined 5 News in April of 2009. He currently reports in Upshur, Randolph, and Barbour counties. Matt graduated cum laude from the
University of North Carolina at Pembroke, earning a B.S. degree in Broadcasting.

Matt comes to the Mountain State from Raleigh, NC. While at UNC-Pembroke, Matt worked on the school's news show, Carolina News Today, for 4 years, doing everything from anchoring and reporting to producing and directing.

Matt also interned at WNCN-TV in Raleigh. Matt currently lives in Clarksburg. When he's not reporting, Matt enjoys reading, listening to music, and cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes.
