Steve Butera

Steve Butera is the anchor, producer and reporter for 5 News Weekend Edition at 6:00 and 11:00.  He's been with the 5 Newsteam since he was an undergrad at West Virginia University's P.I. Reed School of Journalism, first starting as a weekend reporter.  He earned his bachelor's degree in 2008 and is currently working on his master's in journalism.

This Mountaineer held many roles during his undergrad years at WVU, including anchoring the university’s statewide newscast and serving as news director for his college radio station.  He has reported for KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, MSNBC and ABC News while in school.  Steve is also one of the original contributors and trainers of West Virginia Uncovered, a multimedia journalism co-op with several newspapers in the state.  In his senior year, Steve won three Hearst Journalism Awards for television reporting and a regional Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.  Between his job at WDTV and research, Steve is also an adjunct professor at WVU, teaching video editing to undergraduate students.

Steve grew up all over the eastern U.S., including here in North Central West Virginia. He's a 2004 graduate of Bridgeport High School, and actually did his high school internship at 5 News. When he's not in class or in front of the camera, you can catch Steve carving the local ski slopes, going to the gym or religiously following the New Jersey Devils (much to others' chagrin, he's not exactly a Pens or Caps fan).
