Dave DeCandis joined the 5 News Sports team in March of 2009. Dave is originally from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania but grew up most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida.
Before coming to North Central West Virginia Dave worked in Topeka, Kansas. While there he had the opportunity to cover the University of Kansas run to the National Championship in Men’s Basketball and an Orange Bowl title in football. He also had the chance to cover one of the nation’s best college basketball players in Michael Beasley at Kansas State, two NASCAR races, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and many state championship games at the high school level.
He started his broadcasting career in college at the University of Central Florida where he earned a Bachelors in Broadcast Journalism and a Minor in Marketing. While at UCF Dave worked as sports reporter, anchor, producer, and photographer for UCF’s on-campus news show, UCF Knightly News and interned in the Sports Department at Central Florida News 13. Dave also was a play-by-play and color commentator for the UCF radio station, and for a short time was a sports writer for the school paper.
Dave also worked for GolfweekTV.com as a photographer/editor, which gave him the opportunity to travel across the country shooting professional, college, amateur and junior golf tournaments.
When he is not at work, you can find him on the golf course, at the movies, listening or playing music, or on the couch watching his favorite T.V. shows.
