Morgantown Police are giving out safety tips to make sure your kids stay protected after an attempted child abduction last night.

A 6-year-old girl was playing on Hite Street outside her house when the attempted abduction happened.

Police say James Copen Jr. followed the girl inside her house, then had a confrontation with the girl's parents, who called 911.

Police say that's exactly what the girl should have done. They remind parents and guardians to reinforce rules with their children.

You can check with police to find out about sex offenders in the area.. and you should get to know your neighbors if you can.

And it doesn't matter what age your child is, you should always keep an eye on them to make sure they're okay.
