The week from May 18th through the 24th has been designated as National Emergency Medical Services week and several communities are showing their appreciation for the workers.

Taylor County EMS is holding a reception with the public Monday night to let folks learn more about what they do and the history of the organization.

Governor Joe Manchin proclaimed to recognize this week as National EMS Week to honor all the men and women who give their time to provide lifesaving care to folks across the state everyday.

Taylor County EMS started in 1961 as a completely volunteer group, but over the years has shifted to being about 70% paid members and only 30% volunteers.

Supervisor Carl Bartlett says this week's theme is "Your life is our mission." He says that no matter how serious the call, the workers and volunteers always have to be prepared to help with the condition.

The reception on Monday started at 6:00pm at the EMS Station along Route 50. The station received a plaque to honor former member Virginia Ann Rogers for volunteering 25 years of her time. Rogers passed away earlier this year.

Folks are encouraged to stop by this week to say Thank-you to the EMTs for all their work.
