Streets are shut down and buildings evacuated after a "suspicious package" is found in Fairmont Friday night.

It was spotted around 8:30pm on the sidewalk along Fairmont Avenue near the intersection with 9th Avenue.

Officers say it was a green army ammo box on the sidewalk with gallon jug next to it, and the jug appeared to have oil in it.

Fairmont Avenue was blocked off for hours from 8th Avenue to 10th Avenue and surrounding buildings, including the McDonald's, were evacuated.

The State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene to assist the City Police and City Fire departments. The Bomb Squad secured the area and disposed of the package around 11:00pm by hosing it down with a high powered water cannon.

The City Police are investigating.
