A fire guts an Elkins home early Monday morning leaving a family homeless.

Fire departments were called to a home along old Route 33 around 6:15 Monday morning.

The fire destroyed the home. The homeowner says he wasn't home at the time of the blaze but his family was. They were able to get out in time and luckily, no one was injured. Unfortunately, the family lost a dog and a cat in the blaze. He says they've owned the home for the past 11 years and will most likely rebuild it.

Fire crews from Belington, Beverly, Elkins and Buckhannon responded to the scene. Fire officials say there was a problem with the water because of the cold weather conditions.

Crews aren't sure what caused the blaze and the State Fire Marshal will investigate.

Fire officials say there has been an outpour of help offered to the family, including the American Red Cross and the Fraternal Order of the Police.
