Two Marion County men are charged for robbing a man by claiming to be Taylor County police officers.
The victim in the robbery identified the men in a photo line-up and they were actually already in jail on other charges.
19-year-old William Chester and 35-year-old Christopher Vennis are both charged with armed robbery, grand larceny, and daytime burglary.
Sheriff Robert Beltner says back on January 15th, they told a Thorton man they were undercover officers. When the elderly man let them into his home, they shoved him against a wall, stole his wallet with cash, and two handguns.
The investigation is continuing and a woman may also be charged in the case. Chester and Vennis are both being held in the North Central Regional Jail, each on a $150,000 bond. Detectives say they may face similar charges in Marion County as well.
Officers say folks need to remain alert and on guard to prevent this from happening again.
Sheriff Beltner says if someone claims to be an officer, always ask for their ID. If you don't know who you're talking to, never let them into your home because then they have control. If you suspect anything is off, call 911.
