Millions of people across the country fall victim to identity theft every year, but you don't have to be one of them.

Local law enforcement and bankers met today for a finance crime seminar at the Bridgeport Conference Center.

FBI and IRS agents taught over 150 of those authorities about the new upcoming scams that our coming our way.

FBI Instructor Frank Abagnale, author of "Catch Me If You Can," gave his insight on simple things folks can do to stop those scammers.

He says, first buy a micro-paper shredder that makes it impossible to put important documents back together.

The second suggestion is to sign up with credit monitoring company who will contact you in real time if someones trying to steal your identity.

Unfortunately the internet makes it simple to steal identities, but you need make it not so easy by being careful with your personal information.

City National Bank Security Director Mary Charles says, she warns folks that it can takes years to get their identity back and her bank will notify their customers.
