WDTV News

More crews were in Metz Monday afternoon, investigation the cause of two explosions last week.

Officials from the county, Consol Energy, the State Homeland Security Office, and the State DEP were at the scenes of the two fires, taking readings of current levels of methane gas in the area.

Monday afternoon there were methane levels detected but they were 10 times lower than the levels needed for an explosion.

All the agencies hope to work together to determine the exact cause of the explosions and how to prevent any future incidents. Although officials have said they may never know exactly what happened last Wednesday.

The State DEP plans to continue long term monitoring in the area for gas levels.

Some of the families in the area still remain evacuated, while other have chosen to return.
