WVU faculty senate members voted 77-19 in favor of a vote of no confidence in president Mike Garrison today.

That vote will be forwarded to the Board of Governor's.

Three different motions were submitted to the faculty senate. One called for a vote of no confidence and for his resignation. That motion won the simple majority needed at Monday's meeting.

Another was for his censure, and for Garrison to create a new management culture at the university that assures academic integrity. The senate also wants to a strong voice in the hiring of a new provost.

The final motion demanded the senate have more influence on search committee for major hires and that panels be created to address tension with administration.

Members took turns talking about the options on the table before voting.

They'll talk about today's decision more in-depth at next week's regularly scheduled meeting.
