Braxton County Magistrate Found Guilty

Carrie Jones

Carolyn Cruikshanks could now spend up to 10 years in prison. It took just under an hour for a jury to convict the former Magistrate on charges of Attempted Retaliation Against a State Witness.

State Police say Cruikshanks helped her son, Jason Grubb, obtain documents on a man who agreed to testify against him in a drug case.

Grubb was being held in the Central Regional Jail when he called his mother for help. He asked her to get information on Philip Dailey who was also being held in the same facility . Cruikshanks was able to obtain the plea agreement Dailey made and gave it to him.

Grubb told Cruikshanks he wanted to prove Dailey was a snitch and he showed the information to other inmates. That's when Dailey began to be threatened and had to be moved to another part of the jail.

Her sentencing date has not been set.
