State prosecutors play the 911 tape of accused murder Kevin Layfield crying for help.

The trial got underway Tuesday afternoon.

Layfield is charged with the 2005 murder of his girlfriend Kimberly Clayton.

On the 911 tape, Layfield says, "She shot herself, I'm covered in blood."

Witnesses were called to the stand including Clayton's son, and Sergeant Pat McCarty of the Sheriff's Department.

During this trial the state plans to show jurors physical evidence including Layfield's blood soaked clothes, the .45 caliber gun, and the couch she was found on.

Jury selection took most of the morning, but attorneys the trial should wrap up by Friday.
