More than 3,000 Union and Confederate troops converged in Philippi on June 3, 1861. Reenactors met where that battle was fought Sunday, at the conclusion of the Blue and Gray Reunion.

Union Brig. Gen. Benjamin Franklin Kelley and troops pushed their way through town, forcing Confederate troops under Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Dumont to withdraw towards Beverly, WV.

Ermal Shimp, a Union reenactor admits the battle was not a bloody one. He said while their were injuries, no troops were killed in the battle.
