The Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department was removing debris and conducting assesments of the Brookhaven area, Saturday, after heavy rains left locals with flooded basements and without water.

Heavy rain between 5 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. led to most of the flooding

Michael Wolfe, Deputy Director of MECCA 911 says blocked culverts along roadsides caused water to flood roads and leave behind rocks and other debris.

Houses along Brookhaven Rd and Tryone Rd were affected the most by the damage.

High water and debris also reached Old Route 7 in Sabraton. Parts of Marilla Park were also underwater as water levels from Decker's Creek reached the surface.

Folks affected by the floods can pick up cleanup kits by contacting the American Red Cross at 598-9500.

Anyone in need of safety tips on flood cleanup are encouraged to contact the Monongalia County Health Department at 598-5100.
