A weekend of Civil War history and activities concluded on Sunday following the Battle of Laurel Hill reenactment.

The battle was fought on July 11, 1861, on the same field where folks were entertained to the sounds of canons and muskets.

Laurel Hill was a retreating ground for Confederate soldiers after being pushed out of Philippi in a skirmish one month earlier. The battle was a key Union win in securing present-day West Virginia by cutting off key turnpike passes from the Confederates.

Other weekend events included a parade, car show, and a 5k run.
