Halloween is just around the corner and folks from all over the state have been taking part in the festivities at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston.

The facility was built in 1858 at a time when West Virginia wasn't even a state yet. The Virginia Legislature wanted a place for the insane in a remote part of the state.

Since then, the building has been officially declared haunted and has even been featured on the national television show "Ghost Hunters."

It was built to only hold about 250 patients but in 1958, it housed over 10 times that amount, with 2,400 living in the facility at it's peak capacity.

The facility is nearly 2,000 feet long and has had dozens of murders take place behind the doors.

Those looking for a good thrill can tour the building to get a look for themselves. The old hospital even hosts overnight ghost hunts.

Tours only last until November. If you would like more information log on to www.trans- alleghenylunaticasylum.com.
