A number of counties around the area canceled school Tuesday morning because of Monday night's snow fall. But just what exactly goes into making that decision?

Deciding whether or not to delay or cancel classes is a long and very time consuming process. It all begins by monitoring weather conditions the night beforehand and early the next morning. Superintendent of schools then call the folks who take care of state roads and ask them how those roads are going to be treated and how long that process will take. Then the Transportation Director of the school drives the side roads to see what condition they're in; and then both talk about their options and what's the safest decision to make for the students.

Normally a two-hour delay is called so the school's can weigh their options, until they have to make that decision to close.

Randolph County will make up this day sometime in March.  Upshur County still hasn't set a date.
