The Clarksburg City Council talked about goals and strategic planning during a conference session Thursday evening.

Some of the short term discussion included continuing downtown revitalization efforts, continuing the demolition of condemned structures, and working with different groups and the visitor's bureau to bring more events to the downtown area.

Long term talks included expanding East Pointe, pension plan solutions for fire fighters and police officers, and working with the board of education to maintain the city's two high schools.

Many questions remain about the long-term strategic plans of the city, but one of the biggest challenges will be replacing revenue that will no longer be generated by United Hospital Center.

City Manager Martin Howe also presented possible changes to the city's sidewalk program that would cap individual projects at $1,500 and would cover materials only.

Council will make a vote concerning the sidewalk program at a later date.
