College students are packing up and heading home for the summer, but campus security remains a top priority for school officials, especially after last month's shootings at Virginia Tech.

WVU's Virtual Medical Campus/Homeland Security Program is offering a course that teaches administrators how to develop an emergency campus security plan before happens.

The course has been around for about 8 months, but interest has really picked up this week and in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech tragedy.

The instructors from WVU travel to different universities across the country and offer the 5 hour course to administrators who are inexperienced at emergency planning. They say the help get campuses on the same page with local law enforcement agencies

The course is funded from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office for Grants and Training.

Soon WVU will also be coming out with a campus safety and security course for elementary and secondary schools as well.
