CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A man who allegedly stole thousands of dollars' worth of diesel fuel from a West Virginia National Guard facility has been charged with conspiring to steal and receiving stolen government property.

Fifty-nine-year-old Charles Raymond Franklin of Red House was indicted in Charleston.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Wednesday the fuel came from the Combined Support Maintenance Shop in Red House.

Naval Special Warfare Command had contracted with the guard to store and maintain equipment there.

The indictment says Franklin not only stole fuel but received 196 gallons in February that he knew had been stolen and sold to him at a significant discount.

Franklin could get as many as 15 years in prison and $500,000 in fines if convicted.

Franklin said he's unaware of the charges and couldn't immediately comment.

Pretty sure he's now aware of the charges. What a fool!
