30 Arrested During UMWA Protest in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) - Thirty people have been arrested during a United Mine Workers of America protest against Patriot Coal in West Virginia.
 
UMWA President Cecil Roberts and AFL-CIO Vice President Arlene Holt-Baker are among those arrested.
 
The UMWA says 5,000 people attended Tuesday's protest in Fairmont.
 
They came from Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
 
United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard told the crowd that every union is threatened if Patriot gets away with shedding legacy costs and breaking promises.
 
Last week, Patriot said it's imposing less severe wage and benefit cuts on its miners than it could have under a court ruling. The company also said it will keep retired workers' health plans unchanged for the next two months.

And you all rednecks blamed Obama without ever paying attention to what Patriot Coal was doing. Ignorance at work indeed. Blame unions? They saved the miners for years. You are anti-union, thus Anti-coal, thus anti-West Virginian.

Apparently unions think they can get blood out of a turnip. Unions continue demanding more and more and will end up putting more and more workers out of work is exactly what will happen. Being greedy does that to you. It's time for a change in the Unions. Your union leaders are no longer interested in what's best for the workers.....only what's in their own best interests. They've already forced other companies out of business...what good did those protests do for their union workers??
