A 5-month-old Harrison County boy is at Ruby Memorial Hospital with broken ribs. His mother, Sabra Hardman, was arrested Wednesday afternoon. Her boyfriend, the child's father, 35-year-old David Mazza, was arrested Tuesday night in Morgantown.

Harrison County Sheriff's Department deputies said that the baby was taken to the hospital after his grandparents saw that the baby looked lifeless and was having trouble breathing on February 10. Once at the hospital, doctors noticed the baby had broken ribs, a brain bleed, was dehydrated and had marks on his ear and finger, at least one that looked like a burn.

They called the sheriff's department because they didn't think these were accidental injuries.

Hardman faces two charges of child neglect resulting in serious injury. Her bail was set at $200,000. Mazza's charged with the exact same thing but one count. He's behind bars on a $100,000 bond.

Mazza had been arrested on similar charges against the same child a few months ago.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the injuries.

I don't understand why this baby was in the care of either parent seeing that he had been arrested for this a few months ago then also why its his bond lesser than hers being charged for the same thing and his second time what's wrong with the courts.......

I see people like these on the news daily it seems and what always catches my eye in seems is that "legal system" puts these children back in harms way by giving these children back to the abusers. Our country is in a tizzy over gun control and yet these crazy monsters use only their hands to harm, sometimes beyond repair - innocent children. This case is even more alarming since this is the second time this child has been hurt by the same people. Who should we blame for this ?? Somebody wasn't doing their job it seems or the laws need to be stiffer. I hope this little boy survives this ordeal and that he never is given back to these sicko's. Makes my heart bleed and my soul cry and still in my mind I know this is not the only innocent harmed, sometimes killed every single day.

"Mazza had been arrested on similar charges against the same child a few months ago." Are you kidding? How was this man ever allowed to see the light of day again, much less beat up the same baby? Who is defending the child against this monster?

I don't understand why this poor baby was still in the home with these low lifes if there were earlier charges involved. As far as I am concerned whoever allowed them to maintain custody should also be considered responsible. Some people should not be allowed to reproduce. Another child drops through the cracks at what cost! This is happening much to often around here! The laws are not strong enough. I am so angry about this. Make sure that they are put out in the general public in jail and let nature takes its course!!! They will take care of these two. They deserve the same protection that this baby received....none!!!
