5 NEWS UPDATE: Boy Rescued from Philippi Pool

UPDATE 7/24/13 5:45 P.M.:

Officials said a concerned citizen helped an 8-year-old boy get out of the Philippi City Pool after they saw the boy struggling to stay above water on Wednesday around 2:00 p.m.

A lifeguard then got into the pool and helped the boy out. He was unconscious when EMS arrived on scene.

He was then taken to Broaddus Hospital, and from there he was flown to Ruby.

Still no word on his name or condition.

ORIGINAL STORY 7/24/13 3:00 P.M.:

Barbour County 911 officials said a reported drowning happened around 2:00 p.m. at the Philippi City Pool.

They said they couldn't confirm an age or gender, but it was a child.

That child was flown from Broaddus Hospital to Ruby.
