5 NEWS UPDATE: One Person Arrested At Scene of Morning Fire

Officials with West Virginia University have confirmed that several of the people who lived in the apartment building are students at WVU.
 
WVU Students Affairs is working with the students to find alternative housing.

Three people were treated and transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for undisclosed injuries after an apartment fire broke out early Monday morning.
 
Seven occupants were able to escape the structure. One person was taken into custody at the scene. 23-year-old Derrick Blankenship was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and obstructing an officer.  He was arraigned at the Morgantown Public Safety Building, where he posted $325 bail.  
 
Damage to the structure is estimated at $125,000.The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is not considered to be suspicious. Following the fire, the building was condemned by the Morgantown Building Codes Office. Victory Holdings of Morgantown owns the structure.
 
Original Story (2/18):
 
Two people had to be taken to the hospital after a fire in Morgantown. It also shut down two roads in the area.
 
Just before 6:00 Monday morning, crews were called to an apartment building on Brockway Avenue in Morgantown.
 
No word on how the fire started, but we are told people were inside at the time. Two people had to be taken to the hospital, but they only suffered minor injuries.
 
The fire forced crews to shut down part of Brockway Avenue and the Walnut Street Bridge as they tried to put that fire out.
 
One person was also apparently taken into custody at the scene. 23-year-old Derrick Blankenship was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and obstructing an officer.
 
The Morgantown City Fire Marshal will be on scene investigating, and the apartment has been condemned.
