5 NEWS UPDATE: Suspected Hit and Run Driver Arraigned

UPDATE (11/6/13): 

Robert James Hawkins, the man accused of hitting a woman on Halloween night with his car, has been arraigned.  He is facing charges of failure to notify police of an accident and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. He is in jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.

UPDATE (11/4/13):

Fairmont Detectives released the name of the man who allegedly hit a woman on Halloween night with his car, and kept going.

Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for 48-year-old Robert James Hawkins. According to investigators, he left the scene of that accident on East Park Avenue last Thursday.

At last check, the woman is still in stable condition but her name hasn't been released.

UPDATE (11/2/13):

Fairmont Police said they have found the driver and vehicle that were involved in a hit and run on East Park Avenue. The driver's name has not been released, but they said charges are pending.

Detectives also said the investigation is ongoing.


The Fairmont Police Department are investigating a hit and run accident from Thursday night.

Just before 10:00 p.m., a 21 year old woman was hit by a truck or SUV on the 500 block of East Park Avenue. The driver didn't stop and was traveling east. The vehicle sustained minor front-end damage, including a broken bug shield and grill.

The victim was taken to Fairmont General Hospital. She is currently in stable condition.

The Fairmont Police Department is investigating a situation where a woman may have been hit by a car Thursday night.

According to police, a neighbor saw a woman lying on East Park Road shortly after 10 p.m. When medical crews got on scene, the woman told them she was hit by a car and the driver fled. 

The woman was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. There's no word on her condition.
