Delegate Richard Iaquinta of Harrison county joined 5 News at 5:30 live on the phone from the capitol to discuss what is happening in the legislature.
The first bill to pass in the House this session is a measure that's caused some controversy. This bill would give equal pay for all magistrates in the state. Right now magistrates in the smaller counties are paid near $52,000 a year. Those in the 32 larger counties make more than $57,000 annually. This bill would even the pay scale. The Democratic majority managed to pass the bill Wednesday despite Republican opposition. They're arguing that this shouldn't be the first bill passed and shouldn't have received so much attention when there are bigger issues facing our state.
Another noteworthy bill introduced in the House, and that's a bill that would change the requirements to apply for a concealed carry permit. Gun control is a hot topic around the country, would these changes make it easier or more difficult to get that permit?
