Update:

A mother is accused of wrapping her dead son in a blanket and refusing to get him help.

State police said a hospice employee went to  Valarie Brown's home along Salt Lick Road to check on her 8-year-old son. At first, Brown allegedly refused to let them in. After she finally did, Brown said to the employee, "please do not hurt him." Investigators said the boy's body was decomposing.

There's still no word on how the boy died. Once that changes, 5 news will update you.

Original:

A mother is facing a serious charge after her young son was found dead inside their home, Wednesday night.

State Police said they were called to Valarie Brown's home on Salt Lick Road in Braxton County to assist a Hospice employee on a welfare check of a juvenile.

Troopers said when they entered the home, they found the boy deceased. Brown is charged with child neglect with death. Investigators aren't sure if she contributed to the boy's death.

State Police added Hospice made the effort to contact Brown.

At this point, investigators aren't sure how long the boy was deceased in the home.
