What would you say if we told you that certain foods you eat or the way that you cook them could make you age quicker? Most people wouldn't event think of that, but apparently there are A.G.E's in those foods that nutritionist say are aging you from the inside out.
It stands for advanced glycation end-products. These are harmful compounds that develop in the body from browned,sugary, or processed foods.
Eating these types of foods causes your tissue to build up, which speeds up your aging process. But there are some easy solutions to be healthier without giving up the food that we love.
If you marinate foods in lemon it decreases A.G.E in that food by 50%. If you use low heat and slow cook your foods, it's a 70% decrease. But the best one is if you cook foods by steaming or poaching it, it's a 90% decrease. A nutritionist told 5 News there's something else you should try to keep your A.G.E levels down.
"As a nutritionist I always have to go for the fruits and veggies. Fruits and vegetables contain these super antioxidants that can fight the damage from A.G.E's. I just want everyone to know that ageless doesn't mean tasteless. So just remember to protect your body by protecting your food," said Dr. Michelle Davenport, Nutritionist.
