An accident on I-79 sent two people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon and backed up traffic for hours while crews worked to get both people who were trapped out of their cars.

It happened right at noon around mile marker 132 near South Fairmont. Officials on scene told 5 News that one man was driving south in the northbound lane and hit another car head on.

That man was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital. A man in the other car that was hit was also taken to Ruby by an ambulance.

Both northbound lanes were shut down so that HealthNet could land and until crews could clean up the mess.

No word on whether any charges are pending. Stay with 5 News for more updates.
