PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) - Alderson-Broaddus College is changing its name to Alderson-Broaddus University.
The new name will be effective July 1.
Alderson-Broaddus' Board of Trustees approved the change Saturday at its annual spring meeting.
Board chairman Ron Burbick says in a news release that Alderson-Broaddus is a different and stronger institution than it was five years ago.
He says changing the name to Alderson-Broaddus University reflects the school's character and status among higher education institutions.
The private liberal arts school in Philippi was created in 1932 by the merger of Broaddus College and Alderson Academy and Junior College.
