Reports are coming into the 5 Newsroom out of Randolph County about a shooting at a home in Coalton. We don't know much about the shooting itself, but we do know that students at nearby Coalton Elementary School have been locked inside. All of the students there are ok but school officials want to ensure their safety.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous says the shooting occurred around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon at a house across from the Coalton Elementary school, about 12 miles west of Elkins.
Baylous says details about the shooting are unclear, but the victim was able to call 911 and has been taken to a hospital. A landing zone had to be set up across from Coalton Elementary School .
The shooter is believed to be inside the house, and police are now in a standoff.
All students are accounted for and are safe. Baylous says children will be kept inside the school for now, where they are safe.
