The Barbour County Commission named Philip Ferguson the new sheriff until November when elections will begin.

Ferguson said he plans to run in the election.

"It's something that I've worked for a long time, yes it is. We are here to help the community and the county. We're ready to go forward with what we need to do," said Sheriff Philip Ferguson of the Barbour County Sheriff's Department.

They also accepted Cindy Hart's resignation as the 911 Director.

The interim director will be Doyle Cutright.

He will serve for a six month period.

Sheriff Ferguson said he hopes to build better working relationships with different organizations in the area.

He said he hopes to restore people's faith in the Barbour County Sheriff's Department.
