The best of the best were at the Italian Heritage Festival's Pasta Cook-Off to show off their culinary skills on Saturday. This is the 26th time cooks from the area have come to show who has the best pasta recipe.
The chefs got started with food preparation around 9 in the morning. At noon, those who paid a small fee got to go around and taste all the different cuisine. Each family put a spin on their own red or white pasta.
One woman in the competition said she's been cooking since she was ten years old. She told 5 News the secret to creating her dish.
"I start with a red sauce. Sometimes I use beef. Sometimes I use chicken. Sometimes I don't put in any meat. I just use mushrooms. Then, I add my sauce. Sometimes I use fresh tomatoes. Other times I use canned ones. It just depends. Then, I cook it. The longer you cook it the better it is," said Shelley Merriner Matheny, a Northview resident participating in the competition.
There were four winners total for Best Overall, People's Choice and for Best Red Pasta and one for Best White Pasta.
