The people of Philippi were invited to an open house block party Saturday afternoon to get to know the new police chief better.

The block party also showed off the department's new location at the Hu Myers Center. People who went to the block party got to enjoy some free food and music while getting to know local officers.

There was also a kids safety fair. Kids got to try out a drunk driving simulator and check out displays of police equipment. Organizations like the Lions Club were there with free books. Kids even got free helmets as part of the Governor's Highway Safety Program giveaway.

Police chief Jeff Walters said, "This is our chance to show the community what their tax dollars are going toward and plus it lets them come out and interact with police a little bit. It lets the kids know we're the good guys."

Officers said they're thrilled with their new headquarters. They were formerly located in a residential building on Church Street.
