Memorial Day Weekend is one of the most popular weekends to go camping. A lot of people traveled to Audra State Park in Barbour County to get away for the weekend.
Many campers said this is a family tradition they'd never miss.
Grant County Resident Joshua Dingess said, "Every Memorial Day we would go camping. It's our favorite past time. Despite the weather, we go every Memorial Day Weekend."
Camping over Memorial Day Weekend is a great way to enjoy the outdoors.
Audra State Park Camper Joe Shomo said, "I love getting out and enjoying the sunshine, the weather, and the fishing."
Luther Hanson, another Audra State Park camper, said, "I enjoy the campfires, sitting around the campfire, just talking and telling old stories. The moon last night was awesome."
Park officials said this weekend is great not only great for campers, but also for the state's economy.
Johnathan Teets, the Park Superintendent for Audra State Park, said, "It's a busy weekend. Lots and lots of revenue will be brought in this weekend from small parks like mine through Audra to all the way up to Blackwater Falls and a lot of the other parks. It's one of our three major weekends."
If you're going camping, here's a few safety tips to make sure you have a safe and fun time.
If it's windy, make sure to put out the fire before settling down for the night. The temperature at night can also really drop, so be sure to bring an extra blanket. Also make sure to bring a flashlight in case you need to go outside at night.
A good idea is to also pack food in tight, waterproof bags or containers.
