A local state park is progressing with major renovations. Canaan Valley State Park is in the middle of a $36 million renovation to upgrade its lodge and ski area.
The ski area is complete with a new tube park and new snow making equipment. The lodge is well underway and will feature 162 new rooms, plus renovations to the lobby and cafeteria. 5 News took a tour of what will eventually be the new guest room area. Some rooms will feature one to two bedroom suites complete with a fireplace.
When finished the remaining lodge buildings that were built in the early 1970's will be torn down.
"This will bring Canaan Valley up with one of the finest state parks in the country. And that's what we want to do. We want to be the gem of the state - is what Canaan Valley wants to do. All of our parks are diamonds but we want to be the one that shines the best," said Don McFarlane, a park ranger.
The project was started last spring and should wrap up this August.
