The Morgantown Brewing Company hosted the Colonel Zackquill Morgan statue raising bash Saturday evening.
While Colonel Morgan wasn't the first settler of Morgantown, he was the one who got the charter for Morgantown. The Morgantown Brewing Company, which even has a beer named after the colonel, and the committee helping to raise the statue joined forces for the last leg of the fundraising campaign.
The creator of the statue is Jamie Lester, who has created other pieces of artwork around Morgantown. Organizers stressed just how much the statue means to them.
Lauren Sandberg, Marketing Director of The Morganton Brewing Company said, 'I'm a new resident to Morgantown, so coming here and being able to be a part of history and learning about the town that's adopted me as its own is really refreshing."
Brenda Shinkovich, who is a descendant of Morgan and one of the committee members helping to raise the funds necessary for the statue said, "It's amazing to see my dream come into reality. The statue will be finished within a year or a year and a half."
The location of the statue will be on Spruce Street across from the Morgantown Public Library.
